In today's ever advancing, technological world, of course there are many apps for those dealing with the daily struggles of food allergies. I have used a few, but this one, iNgredients, is one of my all time favorites. My wife is also allergic to tree nuts, so we have been avoiding them for years. Now that Lady H is allergic to numerous things, this app really helps ensure we aren't giving her anything she shouldn't have.
After you download it, you are able to create separate profiles for each person with allergies. You pick from an exhaustive list of ingredients you wish to avoid and then you are ready to go. You are able to scan anything with a barcode and the app gives you a "green light" or "red light". It is nice because it allows you see, immediately, who can and who can't have the item (if you have multiple profiles set up.)
I have found a few items that aren't in the database, but the app assures you it stores that info for future updates. It also seems to really err on the side of caution. One item was flagged as "unsafe" for my wife because of nutmeg listed in the ingredients. In fact, nutmeg is safe for those with tree nut allergies so she really was ok to eat the product.
Regardless, it does give some peace of mind to have that "extra set of eyes" on a product before you purchase it.
Do you have any go to apps for food allergies?
